Best Major in El Salvador

In this blog, i will speak about what is the best major in El Salvador . First, I want to share from two points of view : what is the best major for most of the people, and what is the best major, but in my own opinion.

As we all know , El Salvador is a country that now has many options to study a major in college. Unfortunately , there are few employment opportunities today.

That's why , for most of the people, one of the best majors is studying Medicine or Engineering. These carreers , apart from being very well paid , can give social prestige and that is something "important" for most Salvadorans.

But in my opinion , there is not exactly " the best major in the world ." We are who can make our work the best. Because, there is no use having a good salary, if we don't love what we do and it is much less without the purpose of serving others. In other words, the " best major " is the one that you like to do and, most importantly, that you love to do to  for serve others. 

For me, the best major that has offered me El Salvador is teaching. In this days, people who choose to teach in this country are brave. Education in El Salvador is now a real challenge, because many students living in the middle of violence and, often, the teacher is the only guide that can help them to go out of that situations . A teacher, is not only the responsible for teaching numbers and letters , make examinations and deliver grades. It is a work that goes beyond,  The teacher is responsible for teaching values ​​for live with other people.

As we all know , the work of teachers isn't one of the best paid in the country, but it is one of the most rewarding . To be like an instrument for people to learn more and grow as people. Undoubtedly, the work of a teacher mark the lives of people .

It's for this reason and many others, I consider teaching as one of the best carreers that El Salvador has offered me . In this work , I not only develop my skills, also, I serve the society and that is why my favorite major because it is a profession of service to others.

JAPAN: THE COUNTRY BEST PREPARED TO ATTEND EMERGENCIES CAUSED BY NATURAL DISASTER

In my opinion, there is no country that can’t suffer the consequences of a natural disaster for a simple reason: we are humans and we can’t face the Mother Nature. But, over time, there have been some countries that have prepared some techniques to decrease the quantity of damage after a natural disaster like an earthquake or tsunami.

After a research, I reached a conclusion, for me the best country prepared to attend the emergencies of a natural disaster is Japan.

As we know, Japan is situated within the "Pacific Ring of Fire." This ring is a narrow strip bordering the Pacific Ocean characterized by having the highest rates of volcanic and seismic activity. Precisely where this limit is located, occurs one of the largest movements of tectonic plates on Earth. These plates are often the cause of the most destructive earthquakes in the world and are often associated with tsunamis.

In Japan, They are not only are prepared to attend an emergency after a natural disaster. They also make some awareness to the people for be prepared at the moment of a disaster.  9 out of 10 Japanese are prepared for a major earthquake.  The majority of people have emergency kits with medicine, lamps, reserves of food and water. Also, in their homes have installed supports to prevent the destruction of furnitures and electrodomestics in an earthquake.

The People who live near the coast are accustomed to suffer thousands of earthquakes of low magnitude (in fact, the word tsunami was born there). The locations on the coast, the more prone to tsunamis, are better prepared: every home has an alarm system that allows local authorities to communicate with tenants under threat. In addition, roads and other escape routes leading to higher ground, with less risk, they tend to be clearly marked. Many areas also have dikes to contain the water and some coastal cities have sensors, connected homes, that can automatically close the doors to prevent the waves from penetrating inside.

Also, The effort and investment of Japanese in the infrastructure and social awareness, placing them as the best prepared country against the risk of earthquakes. Big buildings and facilities are constructed using rigorous seismic standards and that have endured the severe shocks. Without the training of the Japanese, the disasters would be worse. But, they have shown the ability to establish their business operations, as well as ensure the functioning of society. 

NATURAL DISASTERS: WHAT A FAMILY SHOULD DO IN THAT MOMENT?

In this blog entry, I will give some pieces of advice about what a family should do if they live a natural disaster and lose everything.

On first, it is difficult to explain that kind of experiences. Imagine, you have your house, your bed, a great TV in your living room and to a day to another you lose everything. It will be hard for you. But, in that moments you have to choose and always is better take care of the family.

Second, and the most important. THE FAMILY IS FIRST. Whatever the problem, you have to choose between safe the life of your parents and siblings, your wife and children's life or your Playstation and the ultimate Home Theater you bought the last month. The material things can recover (it can be difficult but not impossible), but if you lose the life of someone of your family, you can't recover it again.

Well, those pieces of advice were just for awareness about what kind of things are most important in that type of situations.

Now, I will give another kind of advices about what you have to do in the moment of a natural disaster.

• ·         Whatever the natural disaster, you have to gathering the whole family. If the house is not a safe place, look for a shelter or a place you can be safe.
• ·         If you have time to recollect some things, take necessary things like medicine, canned food and some clothes. But, if you don't have the enough time of that, as I told you, it is better take care of the life.
• ·         Keep calm, and this is really important specially if there are children in the family. When they see their parents of their oldest siblings worried, they start to ask a lot of things of, in worst cases, they will suffer like a trauma and convert the situation more difficult.

Those are some things you can do in the moment of a natural disaster but, the best advice i can give you is this quote:

 "It's better prevent that sorry".

• Keep a first aid kit in your house with the enough  basic medicines for a couple of days. If you don't have it, have it as fast as you can!. Keep an emergency kit, this is most complete. With some canned food, water, lamps, clothes, and all the necessary things to survive.  And keep in your cell phone the principal emergency numbers like the police, red cross or firemen. They can help a lot to find a shelter.
• It's important save money, imagine: you lose everything. You need to have some money to look for a place for the family. It can help to start again. We will never know what kind of things we will live, so, it is better to save some money for the emergencies.

Finally, Trust in God. This situations are really difficult and He's the only person who can help us to survive; He can give us the enough strength and wisdom to start again and survive the proof. 

Holy Week

The last week I don't call it vacations. For me, it's a week to lay aside the daily activities (like job and studies) and take a while to reflect and commemorate the sacrifice of love, that Jesus made ​​on the cross, for the humanity and his victory over death. That is the real sense of this beautiful week.

This holy week has been different for me. Because it was my first time in a mission and that was one of the greatest experiences i've ever lived, until now. 

Since sunday, I went to the mission field. I was really nervous because it was my first time doing this. But, at the same time, I was happy and confident that it would be a great experience. With my partners, we visited homes and sick people to meditate the God's word, pray for them and invited them to the activities of  Holy week. We had to walk for hours to visit the houses of the community but, it was worth it.

I spent funny moments, one of them was a little farewell party with the kids.

On friday, I finished the mission and I returned back home. Since the afternoon of that day, I went to my parish church to live the most important activitties of the Holy week. My friends made a beautiful rug with salt and I helped them. In the evening, with my familiy, we participate in the procession of the Holy Burial. 

On saturday I was at church the entire day. In the morning I went with my friends to help with the preparations of the Easter Vigil. In the evening, I went with my family to celebrate that moment of the resurrection of Jesus in that Holy Vigil. It was a moment of happines and I really enjoyed it with my family and friends. 

On sunday morning, I went to the Holy Mass, as I usual do. In the afternoon I took a rest in my home. Finally, at evening, I went to a dinner to celebrate, with all the community, the succes of another work completed this Holy week in the parish church. 

As you can see, I didn't go to the beach or another tourist place. I spent my time in the church and that was great because I was with the people that I love and that is really important during this days of reflection. It was a week with a lot of new experiences that I never forget. 

First Period of classes

I love English, that is the reason for I'm studying this career. This is my second year and I will show you how much I learned and improved in this language since I've been studying in the university, especially this semester.

This is a summary in which I don't want to explain all the topics but I will mention all of them. I want to highlight the topics that were new for me and also those who helped me improve the knowledge I had.

These are the new topics for me:

Tag Questions

There are little phrases in the end of a sentence, it can be positive or negative. The main objective of this kind of questions are confirm or deny something.

The golden rule is this: 

With affirmative sentences we use a tag question in NEGATIVE.          

Ex: He isn't Carlos, is he?

In negative sentences we use a tag question in POSITIVE.        

Ex: You are Tom, aren't you? 

Shall
I didn't know anything about "Shall". This is the British Way to use "will". In American English is not common but I will be a teacher and It's important to know this kind of things. 

Causatives

The causative is used when one thing or person makes another person or thing do something.

Let: To allow someone to do something.

Ex: My father let me drive his new car.

Make: To force someone to do something.

Ex: She made his son do his homework:

Have: To give someone the responsibility to do something.

Ex: I have my students doing the homework. 

Get: To convince to do something. This is the only causative that uses "to" before a verb.

Ex: I get my brother to help me fix the computer.

In this period of classes, the teacher helped us to improve the topics we studied last semester.

How to use correctly the Present Perfect and Past Perfect and the difference between both. Also, a review of the use of Simple Present. I've been studying how to identify the pasive voice and active voice in a sentence. This topic was a little confusing but now I could understand better. And finally, the Modal Verbs. Especially, how to use Must, Be able to, May and Might.

And my favorite part of this classes:

We studied the topic of Health Matters, vocabulary about symptoms of a sickness and medications, and readings about types of medical treatment. Another readings, listenings and dictations about climate change, environment, stories about ghosts, soft sand deserts and many interesting things that help me to increase my vocabulary.
